Travelling through life looking for her wings, Thumbelina bursts out of a flower and onto our stage with real life magic using shadow puppets. This new-age psychedelic twist on the popular Hans Christian Anderson tale is a magic carpet ride for flower children of all generations. A cast of mice, frogs, birds and bugs in a rainbow array of colours are brought to life with live music, voices and masterful shadow puppetry.
Deb Chase and Mick Doherty team up together to create the Oregon Shadow Theatre, based in Portland Oregon. Together, they are well known across North America for their puppetry, live music, and excellent storytelling. Chase has been a practicing puppeteer since 1980. With a degree in fine arts and a long resume of performing and teaching, Chase brings expert technique and skill to the stage. Mike Doherty, a professional musician, has composed and performed for the stage and the screen. His studies in voice, guitar, percussion and more have made him a skilled performer and perfect match with Chase's puppets.
With the intricate designs and delicate movements of the puppets, paired with the assortment of live instruments, Thumbelina lights up the imagination and gets the whole family grooving together. Be transported into the fairy world and find yourself believing in magic!
