Members of the Arts Council of the North Okanagan invite you to an exhibit of earthworks and plein air paintings. Artists were encouraged to spend time creating in the great outdoors, and finding ways to bring that art indoors, to the Vernon Community Arts Centre.
Earthworks are generally made by shaping the land itself or by making forms in the land using natural materials like rocks or tree branches. They can range from subtle, temporary interventions in the landscape to significant, sculptural, long lasting alterations. For this exhibit, we asked artists to bring the land into the Vernon Community Arts Centre via paintings, sculptures, photographs or other creating installations that incorporate natural materials such as tree branches, foliage, rocks, or clay. Some of these works may also retain their origins in the community and public places, so we can also extend the exhibit back into nature where everything stemmed from.
